15 Fighter Jets from Denmark and Sweden to Form a Christmas Tree Above Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Sweden – Copenhagen is set to witness a spectacular aerial display that combines military precision with festive cheer. On Monday, December 9th, a formation of Swedish and Danish fighter jets will take to the skies, creating a unique spectacle over the Danish capital.

If weather conditions are favourable, up to 12 Swedish Gripen fighter jets, accompanied by three Danish fighter planes, will form a Christmas tree-shaped formation, soaring over the Danish side of the Øresund Strait and the city of Copenhagen. This event is part of a cherished tradition by the Swedish Defense Forces, which organizes festive flights across Sweden each year. These displays involve various aircraft, including fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters, and are a testament to the holiday spirit.

This year, in a gesture highlighting the growing cooperation in defense, the Swedish forces have invited their Danish counterparts to join in the celebration. The Danish Armed Forces have accepted the invitation, allowing part of the flight path to cross Danish territory, symbolizing the strong and friendly ties between the two nations.

The planned route for this festive formation promises to pass over several key locations, offering residents and visitors a chance to witness this extraordinary event. The approximate schedule for the flight on December 9th is as follows: at 14:04, the formation will be visible over Køge Bugt; by 14:06, it will pass over Kastellet in Copenhagen; and by 14:10, it will reach Helsingør. These times are subject to change based on weather and operational conditions, which could lead to the event being rescheduled or cancelled. In the event of adverse weather, a backup date has been set for Wednesday, December 11th.

For those eager to catch a glimpse of the festive formation, the best viewing spots in Copenhagen include Kastellet and the coastal areas both north and south of the city. The Swedish Defense will lead the formation and provide updates on any changes through the F 17 - Blekinge flygflottilj page, ensuring that spectators are kept informed.

This event not only serves as a visual treat but also as a testament to the increased military cooperation between Sweden and Denmark. It celebrates peace, partnership, and the shared values that unite these neighboring countries during the holiday season. As the fighter jets carve a Christmas tree in the sky, they remind us of the importance of collaboration and goodwill. Merry Christmas to all who will watch the skies light up with this unique display of unity and festive spirit.
