Tragedy Strikes at L’Aquila Air Show: Co-Pilot Paolo Dal Pozzo Fatally Struck by Heavy Vehicle

L’Aquila, Italy – The first day of the much-anticipated Air Show at Parchi di Preturo airport in L’Aquila turned tragic when Paolo Dal Pozzo, a 41-year-old co-pilot of the 118 medical helicopter rescue service, was fatally hit by a heavy vehicle. The incident occurred during routine refuelling operations, casting a sombre shadow over the event.

The accident took place as a tanker was manoeuvring on the airport apron for standard aircraft refuelling. Initial investigations suggest that Dal Pozzo was in a blind spot, an area with minimal visibility from the vehicle’s mirrors, leading to the unfortunate collision.
