German Air Force Releases 2025 Display Team Schedules

Germany – In a striking testament to its evolving capabilities, the German Air Force has released the schedules for its display teams for the 2025 season, marking a significant milestone in its history. Just a few years ago, the German Air Force had no official display teams, a situation that stood in sharp contrast to its European counterparts. Today, it proudly boasts more display teams than most air forces on the continent, with two Eurofighter solo displays, an A400M solo display, and the introduction of a brand-new Tornado solo display. These teams, united under the "Display Team Germany" initiative, reflect a strategic effort to promote the air force and inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in aviation, particularly as the service addresses ongoing pilot shortages. This ambitious expansion is as much about showcasing aerial excellence as it is about building a future for the German Air Force.

The decision to establish these display teams comes at a critical time. With a shortage of qualified pilots posing a challenge to operational readiness, the air force is turning to public engagement as a solution. By bringing the thrill of military aviation to airshows across Europe and beyond, "Display Team Germany" aims to capture the imagination of potential recruits, offering a glimpse into the skill, precision, and excitement that define a career in the skies. The 2025 season promises to be a showcase of this vision, with each team bringing its own unique flair to the international stage.

Eurofighter Solo Displays: TaktLwG 31 "Boelcke" and TaktLwG 74

At the forefront of this initiative are two Eurofighter solo display teams, each representing a storied Tactical Air Force Wing (TaktLwG). The first hails from TaktLwG 31 "Boelcke," based at Nörvenich Air Base in western Germany. Named after Oswald Boelcke, a revered World War I ace whose tactical innovations shaped modern air combat, this squadron carries a legacy of excellence. Stationed near the Dutch border, Nörvenich plays a vital role in NATO’s air defense framework, making it a fitting home for a display team tasked with representing German aviation prowess. The pilot, known by the callsign "Bambam," will helm the Eurofighter through a demanding schedule in 2025, performing at some of the world’s most prestigious airshows. The season kicks off in France at the International Paris Air Show at Le Bourget from June 16 to 22, followed by a home appearance at Germany’s Tag der Bundeswehr in Bückeburg on June 28. The team will then travel to Hungary for the Kecskemét Air Show and Military Display from August 22 to 24, before heading to Romania for the 15th Bucharest International Air Show (BIAS) from August 30 to 31. September brings performances at the Athens Flying Week in Greece from the 6th to the 7th, the NATO & Czech Air Force Days in Ostrava from the 20th to the 21st, and the Malta International Airshow from the 27th to the 28th.

The second Eurofighter team comes from TaktLwG 74, stationed at Neuburg Air Base in Bavaria. Nestled along the Danube River, Neuburg is strategically positioned to safeguard German airspace, a responsibility the wing has upheld with distinction. The display pilot, callsign "Noble," will take the Eurofighter through an equally impressive lineup of events. The season begins earlier than most, with a performance at the Caslav AFB Open Day in Czechia on May 17. June sees the team at the Antidotum Air Show in Leszno, Poland, from the 20th to the 22nd, followed by another Tag der Bundeswehr appearance in Schleswig/Jagel, Germany, on the 28th. August brings a trip to Denmark for the AB Roskilde Airshow from the 23rd to the 24th, and then to Poland for the International Air Show in Radom from the 30th to the 31st. In September, the team will perform at the EURO FLIGHT TEST in Siegerland, Germany, from the 3rd to the 4th, before closing the season alongside their TaktLwG 31 counterparts at the Malta International Airshow from the 27th to the 28th. Together, these schedules highlight the Eurofighter’s agility and the skill of its pilots, reinforcing Germany’s standing in the global aviation community.
