NEW WARBIRD COMING TO EUROPE
Today it has been announced that the Collings Foundation Curtis TP-40N Warhawk is being prepared to be shipped to the United Kingdom from the United States. The TP-40N (‘T’rainer ‘P’ursuit) is a Unique full dual control/dual-cockpit version of the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938.
The prewar P-40 “Tomahawk” was the primary front-line USAAF fighter when the Second World War began. It was relegated to second-line status by late 1942, when the P-40 “Kittyhawk,” and subsequent variant the “Warhawk,” emerged. These fought in every theatre of war until being replaced by more advanced models. The P-40 aircraft is famous for its response to desperate actions, such as the Pearl Harbor defence of December 7, 1941, AVG use in China with the Flying Tigers, and the North Africa fight against Rommel. The P-40 is firmly established as the definitive early war American combat aircraft. Over 200 pilots from 7 nations became Aces flying the P-40.
The aircraft that is due to arrive in the UK in the coming weeks will be based at Biggin Hill airport where it will join the fleet of three T9 Spitfires and the worlds only two-seat Hurricane.
