Southport Air Show 2024: Lineup Revealed

Southport, UK – The Southport Air Show, set to take place on Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 14, 2024, has unveiled an exhilarating lineup for this year’s event. Since its inception in 1991, the Southport Air Show has been a premier event in the aviation calendar, attracting enthusiasts from all over the world with its blend of military and civilian aircraft, both helicopters and fixed-wing.

The Royal Air Force (RAF) is set to make a grand appearance with its world-famous Red Arrows. Known for their precision and breathtaking aerobatic maneuvers, the Red Arrows are a perennial favorite, captivating audiences with their intricate formations and synchronized displays. Alongside them, the RAF Typhoon display team will showcase the sheer power and agility of this multirole combat aircraft, capable of speeds exceeding Mach 2. The RAF Tutor display team will also be present, demonstrating the capabilities of the Grob Tutor, a primary training aircraft used to teach the fundamentals of flight to new RAF pilots

Adding to the military spectacle, the Royal Navy’s Black Cats Helicopter Display Team will perform in two Wildcat helicopters. This marks their first two-ship display of the season, promising a dynamic and thrilling performance that highlights the versatility and advanced technology of these maritime helicopters.

Continuing with the naval theme, the Navy Wings will provide a historical perspective with two iconic aircraft. The Fairey Swordfish, a biplane torpedo bomber that played a crucial role in naval battles during World War II, will take to the skies, offering a glimpse into the past. Accompanying it will be the Westland Wasp HAS1, a shipboard anti-submarine helicopter that served with distinction during the Cold War era.

For vintage aviation enthusiasts, the lineup promises a treat with several warbirds making an appearance. The Rolls Royce Heritage Flight will feature the P-51D Mustang, an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War. Alongside it, the Griffon-powered Spitfire PR.XIX will demonstrate the prowess of this legendary British photo-reconnaissance aircraft. The Bristol Blenheim 1F, a light bomber from the Aircraft Restoration Company, and the Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina flying boat, renowned for its maritime patrol capabilities, will also grace the skies, providing a nostalgic journey through aviation history.

Adding to the jet-powered excitement, the de Havilland Vampire FB52 from the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron will perform, showcasing one of the world’s first operational jet fighters. The BAC Strikemaster Mk82a from the North Wales Military Aviation Services will also be in attendance, highlighting the capabilities of this British jet-powered training and light attack aircraft.

The civilian side of the show will be equally impressive, with two fantastic aerobatic teams set to perform. The Starlings Aerobatic Team, flying two Extra NG aircraft, will captivate the audience with their precision flying and intricate aerobatic routines. The Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers, known for their daring stunts, will perform on two Stearman biplanes, with wing walkers executing breathtaking maneuvers atop the wings.

Rounding out the stellar lineup is Richard Goodwin, who will bring his Jet Pitts to the show. Known for its exceptional manoeuvrability and thrilling aerobatic displays, the Jet Pitts is sure to be a highlight, leaving spectators in awe of its performance capabilities.
