About the aircraft

The Pilatus PC-21 is an advanced single-engine trainer aircraft designed for a range of training purposes, including basic and advanced flight training, as well as mission management and simulation. Launched as the “Twenty-first Century Trainer,” it boasts superior aerodynamic performance compared to other turboprop trainers.

Key features include a tandem seating arrangement under a bird strike-resistant canopy, a pressurized cabin with an On-Board Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS), and advanced ejection seats. The aircraft is powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6A-68B turboprop engine, delivering 1,600 shaft horsepower, enabling speeds and climb rates typical of jet aircraft. It is designed for high maneuverability, with a wing rated for 8g and equipped with a digital power management system for low-speed handling.

The PC-21’s embedded simulation suite includes cockpit emulation, weapons simulation, and a tactical situation display, supported by a Mission Support System for planning and debriefing. Its cockpit features modern avionics with a fully digital interface, including multiple displays and a Hands-on Throttle and Stick (HOTAS) control setup, enhancing realism for trainee pilots. The PC-21 is customizable for different training needs and is compatible with various combat aircraft systems, making it a versatile tool for pilot training.
